Requester guide: asking for blood
In Cambodia most blood for patients comes from relatives and friends. At the hospital's blood bank, a relative of any blood type can donate, and the bank gives the patient the type they need. Ask the blood bank how many donors they need from your family. Do this as well as posting in LifeLink.
1. Sign in
Anyone with the app can ask for blood. You don't need to register as a donor. Install it from the download page and sign in with Google or Facebook.
2. Post a request
Tap Request blood on Home (it is also under Me). Fill in:
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Patient blood type | As the hospital told you |
| Units needed | How many units the hospital asked for |
| Hospital | Choose from the list |
| Urgency | Critical, Urgent or Routine |
| Who should the donor ask for? | The name a donor asks for at the hospital |
| Callback phone number | A Cambodian mobile number, e.g. 012 345 678. Only donors who accept see it. |
Before you send, the app reminds you that it alerts donors who can give the patient's blood type, including compatible types, not only the exact same type.
3. Admin review
Before any donor is alerted, an admin checks that the request is genuine. Your request shows Waiting for review, and no donor has been contacted yet.
- Approved: you get a notification, and LifeLink alerts matching donors near the hospital.
- Not approved: you see the admin's reason. If the need is still real, post a new request with the details corrected.
4. While you wait for a donor
Open your request to see:
- how many donors were alerted, and how many accepted;
- Waiting for the first donor to accept until someone does.
You get a notification: "A donor accepted your request." The donor has your number and will call you or go to the hospital.
No matching donor nearby yet? Your relatives and friends can still donate at the hospital's blood bank. Any blood type counts toward the blood your patient needs.
5. Close the request
- When you have enough blood, the admin marks the request fulfilled after confirming donations.
- If you no longer need blood, tap Cancel request. Donors already alerted can no longer accept.
Stay safe
- Blood is free. By national policy, blood is free to the patient. The hospital may charge a fee for testing and processing; ask how much.
- Never pay anyone for blood or a donor. If someone offers to sell you blood, tell the hospital. LifeLink never asks for money.
- Close relatives: don't arrange for a parent's, child's or sibling's blood to go straight to the patient. Let them donate to the blood bank. The hospital decides how it is used.
